Summary

The Concerto for Trombone was written sometime during 1876 and 1877. The trombonist Leonov played the first performance of the Concerto at the Kronstadt concerts of the United Bands of the Navy Department of Russia, the composer conducting. This work was written primarily to provide the concerts with a solo of less hackneyed nature than the usual. The composer was interested as well in learning to master the virtuoso style of the trombone. This reduction for trombone and piano was made by N. Fedoseyev from the original score. Ed. Davis Shuman (MCA) playing time 11 minutes. American concert premiere June, 1952 by the Goldman Band on the Mall in Central Park, New York, with Edwin Franko Goldman conducting and Davis Shuman as soloist. Includes both trombone solo and B-flat trumpet solo parts, and piano reduction.
