Summary

Laila, una niña marroquí, es raptada de su aldea en las montañas y vendida a los seis años a Lalla Asma, una anciana que la instruye y que se convierte en su abuela. Tras esconderse unos meses en un barrio paupérrimo, se marcha a París ilegalmente con Huriya, una de las "princesas" del fondac. La gran metrópoli la fascina, aunque la condena a la más absoluta marginalidad. Rodeada de los personajes más variopintos, encuentra en la literatura su tabla de salvación, pero, sólo tras un azaroso periplo, será la música la que la devolverá a sus raíces.
