Author Biography

Jason Armbrecht (Thailand and Laos) first spent time in Southeast Asia during an around-theworld trip in 2002. His fascination with the region’s cultures and people combined with a lack of viable TV options after college basketball season brought him back in 2005. He currently lives in Bangkok with his girlfriend, Yasirin, and teaches English to kindergarteners with varying degrees of success. This is his first assignment for Frommer’s.

Brian Calvert (Vietnam and Cambodia) has worked as a journalist in Asia for 5 years, including 4 years at a newspaper in Phnom Penh, the Cambodia Daily, reporting new stories from across the country as well as training Cambodian journalists. He has traveled extensively in Vietnam, and in 2002 interviewed Phan Van Khai, the prime minister at that time. He now works in Washington, D.C.

Jennifer Eveland (Singapore and Malaysia) spent part of her childhood in Singapore, has studied in Hong Kong, lived for a spell in Bangkok, and has traveled extensively throughout East and Southeast Asia. She is the author of Frommer’s Singapore & Malaysia and has authored previous editions of Frommer’s Thailand. She writes regularly for the International Herald Tribune and contributes travel and lifestyle stories to numerous local and international magazines. She lives in Toa Payoh, one of Singapore’s older New Towns, with her husband, a Singaporean musician and producer, their baby son, and their four cats.

Jen Lin-Liu (Bali) is a freelance writer based in Beijing. She is currently working on a book about learning how to cook in China that will be published in 2008 by Harcourt. She was born in Chicago, raised in Southern California, and went to college and graduate school at Columbia University in New York. She has traveled and reported from a dozen Asian countries and enjoys going to Southeast Asia as frequently as possible to escape Beijing’s cold winters. She would like to thank her boyfriend, Craig Simons, for “roughing it” with her in Bali.
