Summary

The first book on gaining an edge in life and in sports by going gluten-free-for both those who eat gluten-free out of necessity and those who choose to for the performance boost Number one world-ranked tennis player Novak Djokovic has attributed his phenomenal rise and string of major victories (including Wimbledon and the Australian and U.S. Opens in 2011 alone) in part to his gluten-free diet-highlighting just how beneficial eliminating gluten can be for athletic performance. Now, with a growing roster of professional and amateur athletes eating gluten-free (including some who can eat gluten but choose to go without), endurance athlete and author Bronski and nutrition therapist Jory-both of whom have celiac disease-present a complete guide to gluten-free nutrition and training for peak performance. Grounded in cutting-edge research and practical experience, The Gluten-Free Edge covers all the essentials of gluten-free nutrition: how to fuel up on high-octane foods to optimize performance and recovery, how gluten can impede athletic performance and overall fitness, and how a gluten-free diet can reduce inflammation and smooth digestion. They cover how to deal with being "glutened" (accidentally ingesting gluten) and profile numerous athletes gaining a gluten-free edge. And they offer 50 power-packed, easy-to-make recipes that will fuel any athlete, including carb-loaders and smoothie addicts.

Author Biography

Peter Bronski is an award-winning writer and endurance athlete. He is the coauthor of Arti-sanal Gluten-Free Cooking and founder of the blog No Gluten, No Problem. Gluten-free since 2007, he's an ultramarathon-distance trail runner and former competitor at the Xterrar off-road triathlon US national championship. Melissa McLean Jory, MNT, is a nutritionist and founder of the blog Gluten-Free for Good. She has a degree in Exercise Science, a certification to teach yoga, and a passion for wilderness adventure and telemark skiing. Although she doesn't like the word "disease" attached to it, she has celiac and is on a mission to increase awareness.
