Summary

The Fifth Edition of this practical handbook is an up-to-date guide to all aspects of cancer chemotherapy. In an easy-to-follow outline format, the book provides complete coverage of the basic principles of rational chemotherapy, the drugs and biologic agents available, the treatment of specific cancers, and selected aspects of supportive care. The Fifth Edition features a greatly expanded chapter on high-dose chemotherapy with progenitor cell and cytokine support. Information has been added on the primary indications, usual dosage and schedule, and expected toxicities of the many new drugs and biologic agents that have recently become available, including rituximab and trastuzumab. All chapters on specific cancer sites have been thoroughly updated. The basic principles and supportive care sections have been streamlined to highlight the issues that are most essential in daily patient care. Appendices include American Cancer Society screening guidelines and a short list of Internet addresses for cancer information.
