Summary

When two unmarried aunts kindly agree to take in their poor relation, they find that young Rebecca Randall is more than they bargained for. The opinionated youngster is definitely a handful. Rebecca's lively and enthusiastic nature eventually win over all doubters, but not before she nearly turns the town of Riverboro topsy-turvy.

Author Biography

Kate Douglas Wiggin (1856-1923) spent her childhood in Hollis, Maine, a place very much like Rebecca's home. A devoted advocate of early childhood education, Ms. Wiggin, with her sister, Nora, founded a school for kindergarten teachers, as well as a library, which still stands in the town of Salmon Falls, Maine. Ms. Wiggin also wrote the classic Christmas story The Birds' Christmas Carol Barbara McClintock has illustrated and written more than a dozen books for young readers, and she has designed sets and costumes for productions with the Minneapolis Children's Theatre. Her work has appeared in the New York Times Book Review and The New Yorker, and she has won numerous awards, including three NewYork Times Ten Best Illustrated Books. Ms. McClintock lives in Connecticut with her son, her fiance, two cats, and three fish
