Author Biography

Cindy J. Dawson, MSN, RIM, CORLN, is an advanced practice nurse in ambulatory care services at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She was the nurse manager of the Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Department for more than 25 years and concurrently managed the Oral Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic for 15 years. Cindy is very active in the Society of Otorhinolaryngology and Head-Neck Nurses (SOHN). She has presented locally, regionally, and nationally and published oh a variety of subjects including otorhinolaryngology nursing, evidence-based practice, and ambulatory care. Cindy has held many leadership positions in SOHN and is currently the president of SOHN (2010-2012). Margaret (Margie) Hickey, RN, MSN, CORLN, is a scientific communications director at Novartis Oncology, Global Division. She has worked in a number of leadership roles throughout her nursing career, including employment as the clinical director of the Tulane Cancer Center in New Orleans, LA, and a clinical director at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute in Pittsburgh, PA. Additionally, Margie has served in a number of local and national professional nursing leadership roles, including her term as president of the Society of Otorhinolaryngology and Head-Neck Nurses (1998-1999). Margie is an established author, with publications in journals and textbooks, and speaker who presents locally, regionally, and nationally. Susan (Susie) Newton, RN, MS, AOCN, AOCNS, is a senior director for Quintiles. In this role, Susie is responsible for the oversight of the oncology and specialty clinical teams as well as further growth of the oncology portfolio. She has worked as an advanced practice nurse in an outpatient oncology office performing telephone triage since 1999. In addition, Susie has worked as an oncology clinical nurse specialist in hospitals in three different states. Susie has lectured on the topic of telephone triage for oncology on local, regional, and national levels. She is an established author, co-editing the book Oncology Nursing Advisor, publishing chapters in medical textbooks and numerous peer-reviewed articles, and serving as past editor for the national Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation newsletter.
