Jeffrey Burton Russell received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of California at Berkeley and his Ph.D. degree from Emory University. He taught at the University of New Mexico, the University of California at Riverside, and the University of Notre Dame before joining the faculty of the University of California at Santa Barbara
